Friggin' Ass Clownery!

Wed Sep 8, 2004, 9:09 PM
Okay, I havn't written in awhile so here goes:

What is up with people not thinking that if anime fan art isn't digital its not even worthy of spitting on? I mean I drew my friggin' arm off on those oil pastels and charcoals for animeFEST and I sold one. ONE. For a measly $40. An original, over sized oil pastel. No prints. No satisfactory photos. But people there with digital prints that they had dozens of and that were tiny in comparison to my poster sized image were selling theirs for usually over $60!! I mean what is the goddamn deal!? Why the F*ck does Inu Yasha HAVE to look like Rumiko Takahashi drew him herself for it to be worthy of adoration!? HUH!? Am I the only person that CRAVES to see characters represented in other styles and fashions?! I guess so!
Wake up people!! Art is ART!!! If we start to TOTALLY ignor real Media drawings then people will stop USING real media!! Then, 400 years or so in the future there will be NO REAL DRAWINGs LEFT ON EARTH and when the inevitable EM disruption occurs and all the computers are down forever, we're going to LOSE OUR HISTORY!
Okay, so that may be a little over dramatic but still. My friend can't sell her Ink paintings of fan art because its not bloody water colors when if one knew ANYTHING about the medium, they would know that INK IS REALLY A HELL OF A LOT HARDER TO USE THAN WATER COLORS. And that is saying a lot since water colors are the tool of evil. An evil that I have harnessed...
BUT NO!!! Watercolors are what anime fan art SHOULD be done in unless its digital. Horse. Crap.
And, I'm tired of people being able to sell Digital prints that I, if I knew the photo manitpulation programs, could crap out in 20 minutes.
I'm not saying that digital images aren't impressive when done properly. I love digital images! Some of them are mind blowing and terribly, terribly time consuming! But to totally disregard any real medium just because I actually drew it with a pencil and then stood for hours in front of an easel blending oil pastels while "Judging Amy" is on, is insulting to me, my talent, and my time. Anyone who uses real media knows that I'm talking about! And what sucks is that people who draw usung real media WANT TO USE DIGITAL while people who can only use digital really wish they could Draw without the digital tablet.
I can't win! I can't effing win.
So here it is, you guys that use Digital mediums for art, I'm not mad at you for usung what gets attention and I know that its not easy. But break out a sketchbook and experiment in a new real media like oil pastels. They are cheap, dirty, and produce great results after a bit of practice. Real artists should get dirty once in awhile.
I like digital, hell I'm going into the digital media profession. But I had to take a hell of a lot of prerequisits in real media art classes before I could get there. That should tell you something. If you couldn't draw before you started using photoshop, you probably can now, you just have to try with a good o'l fashoined pen and paper.
*end rant*
